Laser welding in vacuum

 

Matchmaking in the Euregional context

 
Following the initiative of the Innovation Hub Euregio Meuse-Rhine, innovative medium-sized companies from the border triangle of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany met in Aachen on July 3rd, 2019 for the so-called B2B Match-Making Event.

The event was entitled: “New Manufacturing and Composite Processes” and brought together medium-sized companies from the fields of welding, materials and engineering. The aim was to share know-how with companies from neighbouring countries. This knowledge can be economically and trend settlingly used and previously unknown partners for development and research projects can found. In short presentations (pitches) the companies introduced themselves and took the opportunity for “match-making”.

In this context, IWT-Solutions AG presented its methodical approach in materials consulting. With “Solution Engineering” the importance of new innovative products and the material potentials are emphasized and included in the solution finding for manufacturing chains. With almost all considerations, Prof. Dr. Peter Langenberg highlighted in his pitch, that there is an absolute necessity to prove component safety. This requires activities in the area of material selection and processing along the product development chain.

An interesting match was reached with the company LaVa-X GmbH, a spin-off of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, which is engaged in laser welding in a vacuum. Laser beam welding with mobile vacuum allows to significantly increase the application potential of laser welding for components with high sheet thicknesses. A multiple increase in welding productivity is expected.

Component safety plays a very important role in the new technology. This is how considerations for a partnership between LaVa-X GmbH and IWT-Solutions AG together with the Aachen University of Applied Sciences (Professor M. Schleser, Department of Joining and Cutting Technology / Laser Technology) came about.
