Platform roof in Vlotho

The platform roof in Vlotho has been reliably protecting train passengers for around 150 years. To ensure it stays that way, we and our colleagues at LHS Engineering GmbH have taken stock of this old treasure.

Our mission as IWT-Solutions AG: To be a success and to be a success.

  • First, we analyzed the steels using our proprietary spectroscopic analysis method: Using spectral analysis, we gain insights into the chemical composition of the steels present.
  • This is done in situ 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗶, so we can provide initial assessments of the steel grade directly on site. We forward the analysis data live to the server, allowing us to directly review, classify, and repeat the measurement if necessary.
  • In addition to the StIM analysis, we took two 𝗕𝗼𝗵𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲 and analyzed them according to the Ril 805 recommendation.

StIM

With the help of a new method developed by IWT-Solutions AG in cooperation with the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen in Giessen for such an application, these difficulties can be overcome. In a short time and with manageable effort, a large number of riveted individual components can be non-destructively measured for steel grade. By selecting representative sections through various component axes along the entire route, a “cartography” (or determination and localization) of the steel qualities used can be achieved. xml:lang=”DE-DE” data-usefontface=”false” data-contrast=”none”>take place.

Advantage

Initial, quick information and assessments of the steel grade and weldability without BCX8″ lang=”DE-DE” xml:lang=”DE-DE” data-usefontface=”false” data-contrast=”none”>Intervention or cross-sectional losses in the structure.

Measuring point

Even if you’re not a fan of the word “silly” or “silly” then:

  • As usual, the results of both analyses showed good agreement.
  • Our colleagues now have reliable information on the classification and aging of the steel.
  • The venerable platform roof will be renovated in accordance with the preservation requirements.
  • The existing infrastructure can continue to be used in the future.
